It is very encouraging that the USA has said that they very much want to do trade deals with the UK when we leave the EU, probably sector by sector to start with. These will have to be WTO compliant, of course, but such cooperation will provide even more export opportunities for the UK in our biggest single export market. However, doing trade deals with the USA does not mean that our NHS will be compromised in any way. It will remain open to all UK citizens with care continuing to be provided free at the point of receiving it. Nor do potential trade deals with the USA mean that animal welfare standards will be compromised, nor that food standards will be reduced. Unlike now, the UK will be able to set our own standards in these areas which we will not need to compromise on.
