Boris Johnson promised a review into the viability, potential costs and likely benefits of HS2 and I’m pleased that he has now announced that review. I have voted against HS2 from the start. I believe it to be very expensive with a poor cost-benefit ratio, and it is likely the costs will spiral. It is no longer about speed, but capacity - I accept that this does need to increase, but there are better and cheaper ways of achieving this. And although they will have to contribute towards its costs, HS2 will not benefit many of my constituents. I therefore believe the money could be better spent, and I will be urging that the scheme be scrapped.
