I should like to welcome the government’s decision to give the go-ahead to expanding Heathrow Airport. This decision puts an end to years of dithering by previous governments on a major issue which affects all of us.
Heathrow is the logical choice, because it is well situated geographically, it is already the UK’s hub airport, it is world renowned and it already has much of the infrastructure and systems in place to make expansion a success.
As well as providing the important environmental safeguards, the important thing now is to ensure that expansion happens as quickly as possible. During the years lost due to indecision, the UK ceded much business to other countries. I’m pleased that we can now start to reverse these losses, but we need to develop the scheme as expeditiously as possible.
