This week I attended a range of meetings in Westminster, including a briefing on the Government's plans for Academies. I also met with a representative of Bayelsa state, Nigeria, to speak about opportunities to work with the UK on good governance initiatives and skill sharing. On Wednesday, I chaired a meeting of the NI Affairs Committee in which we discussed the functioning of English Votes for English Laws (EVEL). We will soon be commencing our inquiry into the electricity sector in Northern Ireland.
Finally we hosted our annual charity racing dinner. We raised lots of money for a great charity, New Beginnings, which I hope will contribute to supporting them to carry out their good work. Thank you to everyone that supported us that evening.
