I welcome todays budget statement which announced that investment will reach record levels over the next five years, benefitting families and businesses in all corners of the country.
Extra funding has been given to transform England’s motorways and major roads. This is the largest ever investment in English roads, with over £27 billion between 2020 and 2025. I am delighted that this will include The Missing Link (A417 Air Balloon) and an upgrade to M5 Junction 9.
Additionally, the government are providing funding from the Housing Infrastructure Fund to unlock new homes in the region investing £219million for the M5 Junction 10 improvements scheme in Cheltenham which will unlock up to 8,967 homes.
As you may know, I have been lobbying the Department for Transport on these issues for some time, working with my fellow Gloucestershire MPs, Highways England and Ministers to ensure that these projects get the attention they deserve.
